In our previous post we learnt how to manage comments in WordPress. Now we are going to touch upon a different topic. While writing your posts, there will be many times when you will want to link either to content outside your website or link to your own already written article or content. This is why you need to be aware of how to create a link in WordPress.
Linking to outside URL
First we learn how to link to outside websites in your WordPress posts. First of all you open the website or page that you want to link to. For example, in this post, lets assume that we want to link to WordPress.org. I will open the website WordPress.org in a new window and copy the URL from the URL bar.
Next we will select the text which we want to turn into a link. Lets assume that we want to link the words “website wordpress.org” above. ?We will select these words and then click on the link button in the WordPress editor toolbar.
This will open a window where we will paste the URL that we copied in the first step. We can optioanlly give a title to the link and also check the option to open the link in a new tab or window. When we will hit on the Insert Link button, the text will transform into a clickable text.
In order to link to a post or URL that already exists in your website, you?select the text you want to turn into a hyperlink and on the Insert Link Window you will click on ?”or link to?existing content” and then select the post that you want to link. The WordPress will automatically fill in the URL and title fields. Finally hit Insert Link button.
Similarly you can also turn an image into a clickable link with a custom URL. Click on Add Media and select ?the image that you want to turn into a clickable link. From the attachment display setting in the right sidebar, select Attachment Display Settings and choose Custom URL in the Link to field. Add the URL of your choice and hit Insert into Post button.
